Fam jam

We seem to have developed a wonderful tradition of a week at Dorothy’s. Our family is a combined family due to a second marriage. Dorothy’s provide the perfect location to bring all our children and grandchildren together. They come from California, Toronto and Kingston. Other family members come from New York State and BC. Grandchildren range in age from 22 years to 7 weeks this last trip, a total of 13 children in all. Dorothy’s s is perfect to accommodate every one comfortably. The beach is great for little ones, bigger boys love the fishing, the gardens are a delight with room for soccer, slip and slides or bean bag toss. We used the fire pit for morning coffee or evenings with toasted marshmallows. Kayaking/ canoeing are wonderful in this peaceful location . Wildlife spotted this year were families of geese with signets, loons, deer, beavers, herons and chipmunks. Fish were abundant both Bass and Pickerel with reports from other fishermen of trout. We sat 14 adults one night for supper with no problems. The kitchen is well equipped and the whole property very clean and functional. We look forward to next years visit with real pleasure.

Perfect for our family reunion!

We really could not have found a more suitable place for our family reunion (21 people; 5 families with a total of 8 kids) than Dorothy's lodge. The 4 cottages and the main lodge gave us more than enough room to spread out and give each other space, while the main lodge was large enough for us all. The commercial grade kitchen made cooking and clean up much easier. Close proximity to the locks, the hiking trail, and a great playground for the kids made it an ideal location. The dock was large enough for us all. We loved the history of the place, and the main lodge has been fixed up very well. The cottages were not up to the same level, but more than adequate for our needs. Some things to be aware of: The waterway in front of the lodge is busy since it is the access to the locks. Fine for swimming; just keep an eye on the kids so they don't stray out too far. A boat launch that is well used is right beside the dock. Not a big issue; just keep eyes on the kids. In order to fully enjoy the experience, I highly recommend having a boat to see the lake better. If you prefer to canoe / kayak, they are provided by the lodge. Otherwise, seriously consider bringing a boat. Thanks guys, for a truly great time with our family!

Made our wedding a dream come true

I wish we could give this place 10 stars. We rented out this lodge early September for our wedding. It can accomodate 45 people which turned out to make our wedding experience much more intimate than bigger weddings. Definitely a big plus for us. We have been coming to this area for a couple of years. The location was amazing for the most romantic setting.on the.dock. it could hold our guests with room to spare. Chaffeys locks is gorgeous. After group photos at the lodge, we took a short walk to the locks to have some more photos done. The lodge itself is very clean and the beds.comfortable. The commercial stove and dishwasher made cooking and clean up easy. They had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable for our guests. The fire pit was used every night. The community hall (about a min walk down the road) was the perfect space for our reception. Anymore than 45 people, and it would have been cramped. Convenient store and LCBO were within a very short walking distance as well. Not to mention restaurants, ice cream parlour at nearby resort. It was the most special weekend made perfect by the excellent location, clean and adequate facilities and great owners. We wouldn't have changed a thing and would highly recommend this place.

As good as it gets!

We have rented different properties from Rideau Lakes Cottages for a few years now. Dorothy's is as good as it gets. Plenty of space to spread out. Plenty of amenities like AC and wifi. Decent location to some local businesses. Just look at the pictures and videos. Dorothy's does not dissapoint. I can say this one thing which is not and was not a drawback for us. With a local boat launch, the lock just up the way and a private road leading to some other cottages further up, Dorothy's isn't completely private and secluded like some other options. However no other place has offers what Dorothy's has. Looking forward to returning.
