This is a family owned Canadian summer cottage (sleeps 9) on Indian Lake in the heart of the Rideau Lakes cottage country with 169' of prime waterfront. It is located on a private dead-end road with about a dozen cottages (that have been in the same families for years ) within walking distance of the scenic Chaffey's Locks.
The area is known for its crystal clear lakes on the Rideau waterway system, the Rideau Canal built in 1832 and North America's oldest continuously operating waterway. The Rideau is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and stretches from the Ottawa River to Lake Ontario and the St.Lawrence. A boating and swimming paradise.
This is a summer cottage and is ideal for a group where some family members would like to stay up and some would like to sleep in ! The separate sleeping cabins, a few feet from the main cottage, make it comfortable for both the early birds and the night owls.
There are 3 cottages, (sleeps 9), one for living and two cottages for sleeping. A 2 acre beautiful treed site with circular drive, has a rock garden and outdoor patio for BBQing and relaxing.
Of the 5 bedrooms, one bedroom has a cathedral ceiling, queen bed, the second has a cathedral ceiling, double bed and the two share a jack and jill full bathroom with shower/tub. The third bedroom has two single beds and an ensuite with shower, the fourth has a single bed with its own ensuite too. Last but not least is 'Blue Heaven' a cabin on its own with two single beds and an ensuite with shower. Blue Heaven, with its small blue cathedral ceiling is perfect for the kids or the folks !
All the bathrooms are white with white tiles.
There is parking for 5 cars on the circular drive.
In the main cabin, a gourmet open kitchen is surrounded by a screened-in porch with views of the lake and the sunset while dining. In the kitchen, a large curved counter with seating allows family to talk to the chef or sit there and be served breakfast ! Stainless steel appliances include fridge, dishwasher, Breville cappuccino machine and outside propane BBQ. Adjacent to the kitchen is a laundry room with front load washer and dryer. A small extra bar fridge and water cooler are out on the porch next to the bar.
A cathedral ceiling with fireplace insert in the original stone fireplace is in the main cottage with views of the lake and passing boats. Games are included to play on the handsome vintage 1950's bridge table that extends out into a full games table. A bookcase with books and magazines for all interests is in the living room to enjoy during your stay.
There is a dining table both inside and outside in the screened-in porch.
There is an outdoor ping pong table.
Down at the dock there are two boathouses, one large enough to drive your boat into comfortably and jump out with a roof overhead. Boats can be rented from the local marina and there is a one-person kayak available to guests.
Swimming is fantastic in the clear waters of Indian Lake.
Chaffeys Locks and the historic Opinicon Lodge is a ten minute walk down the private road. Access to the Catarqui Trail is also within walking distance, the Trail following the old railway line.
The Rideau Canal is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and was rated #2 as an exceptional historic site destination by National Geographic.
The Rideau Lakes Region is a great place to explore. You can take advantage of the great fishing, boating, swimming, water-skiing, or lock through the historic canal system to the other attached lakes and towns. In the surrounding towns and cities there are also lots of activities, and events to participate in including, golf, historic tours, boat tours, shopping restaurants, parties, and lots more!
There are 4 bedrooms in the main sleeping cabin. Upstairs are 2 bedrooms, 1 with a double bed, 1 with a queen bed that share a jack and jill full bathroom with bathtub.
Downstairs there are 2 bedrooms each with their own bathroom. One bedroom has a single bed and the other has 2 single beds. 'Blue Heaven', the little cabin, has 2 single beds. All bedrooms have their own doors to the outside.
The banquettes on the screened-in porch in the main cottage are made of two single beds that can be used as day/night beds.
Blankets and pillows are provided, but please bring bed sheets, pillow cases and towels. Linen service is available for an extra fee.
