Our weeks at Beveridges Lockmaster's House was absolutely wonderful. The home is beautifully renovated and so comfortable and well-appointed....but the location cannot be beat. Right at the lock but still so peaceful. We also rented a pontoon and loved that the keys were waiting for us and she was docked right there and ready to go! The pontoon had a trolling motor and live well which we put to good use for fishing the small nooks and crannies. Great location to base out of. We spent a day in Ottawa and at the Nordic Spa, a rain day we drove to a few towns and then when the weather cleared multiple different directions on the boat. Such a special place. Thank you!
July 2025 was our second year in a row staying at the Lockmasters house at Beveridges Locks, and it did not disappoint. Having grown up a short drive away in Perth Ontario, the surroundings were very familiar, and it offered us the luxury of having family and friends closeby for planned or impromptu visits, meals, and good times! The house has been beautifully remodeled, and provides every amenity for even the most discerning and particular guests (that would be us). The scenery is beautiful with the Tay canal off the front porch and the location provides ample space for both indoor or outdoor gatherings. Being pet friendly meant our dogs could vacation with us and they thoroughly enjoyed their daily walks and chasing the geese into the water at every opportunity. Shopping is close by in Rideau Ferry for any quick necessities, or Perth and Smiths Falls are each ~15 mins away for any comprehensive needs or any tourist explorations. Our 2 week stay had absolutely perfect weather interrupted only by a couple 15-20 mins showers. The Parks Canada staff were friendly, courteous and attentive to any needs and Robin has been absolutely wonderful to interact with over the past 2 years. We highly recommend a visit here!
Thanks guys, always a pleasure to host you!
We had a wonderful week at the Beveridges Lockmaster’s House and could have stayed much longer to enjoy the house and its porch with its view onto the look and the goings-on there (ospreys, campers, boaters, fireflies, etc). The cottage is well-located, and as it was very hot, we enjoyed going swimming at the beach at the Rideau Ferry Yacht Club, only a short drive away. We felt very lucky to have an osprey nest so close by. We feel like we still have a lot to discover in this lovely part of Ontario.
We have been making the trip to Rideau Ferry to fish for several decades. We have stayed in a few different places over the years. This was our first time here, and is the best so far. We plan to continue coming here on an annual basis as long as it is available. The house is exceptional, the folks at the lock could not have been more accommodating, and the fishing on Rideau never disappoints!
Our family was fortunate enough to celebrate Thanksgiving at the Lockmaster’s House. The house exceeded our expectations in every way. We enjoyed exploring the area by hiking, canoeing, running and made it to the final showing of the year at the nearby drive-in. Would definitely book again.
Six of us sojourned at the Beveridges Lockmaster's House after a week with Le Boat on the Rideau Canal. It was an awesome way to end our journey to eastern Ontario. The house more than met our expectations. Easily big enough for six with a comfy living room, modern kitchen and bathrooms (gotta love those showers), and a deck with Adirondack chairs overlooking the canal. We canoed the Tay Canal with one of the Parks Canada boats, barbecued burgers at night, and hobnobbed with lockmaster Ian and his cat Ghost, who was rescued from the canal as a kitten. Our stay wasn't nearly long enough. Gotta go back!
Thanks California boaters! I'm so glad that you enjoyed it. Thanks for keeping good care of the property! Come back soon!
The location is so beautiful and peaceful - we actually saw the locks in operation. The cottage itself is gorgeous, well maintained, beautifully furnished/decorated, comfortable beds, lovely bedding/towelling and excellent HVAC. Nice walks available in the area. Great value for your money...5 minutes to Perth, 1 hour to Ottawa.
A very comfortable home with spacious rooms and all the necessary amenities. Beautiful location with lots to do in the area. Very friendly Parks Canada staff at the lock.
Everything was great, you could not ask for more. Special thanks to Robin
Relaxing as advertised. Clean and well appointed cottage. Ian and lock staff made stay enjoyable with help and local knowledge. Quick responses whenever we had questions.
